Major Attractions in Montego Bay, Jamaica

There are several attractions that make Montego bay one of the best vacation destinations in Caribbean region. Fort Montego

This is one of the largest forts in Jamaica. The fort was built to guard the city from pirates and French and Spanish invaders. It is strategically located in the outskirts of the city. You just need to drive for less than a mile from Montego Bay to reach this majestic site. While visiting the beach, you would come across cannons that have been used only twice. First it was fired in 1760 to celebrate the capturing of Havana by the British. Irony of the celebration was that due to cannon’s explosion, gunner was killed. Second time, the cannon was fired at an English ship. Gunner assumed it a French privateer. Today, while walking through the fort, you would find remnants of the artillery store and three cannons.

Dolphin Cove

If you want to spend memorable time with the dolphins, visiting Dolphin Cove is a must. The facility is located at Half Moon. While visiting this site you can be a part of variety of activities and educational programs. Some of the most popular programs and activities are:

  • Beach Encounter
If you are traveling with your kids, they would love to be a part of this program. This 30 minute activity allows young non swimmers to spend time with dolphins. They can touch, pat and kiss the friendly creature.
  • Deep Water Encounter

This activity allows you to get down into dolphins’ lagoon. Duration of this activity is 35 minutes. Before starting off with the activity there would be a small orientation that lets you know about the behavior of dolphins. Afterwards, you can swim with dolphins, kiss them and dance with them.


Croydon in the Mountains
If you want to experience the natural richness of the city, this is the site to visit. It is located 24 miles away from the city. While strolling around the area, you would come across gorgeous plantation of pineapple and coffee beans. No matter in which part of the region you are, captivating natural views are guaranteed. There is a gift shop in the area from where you can buy mementos.
