Palaces That Should be on the List of Holidays in Lisbon

Belém Palace

If you are visiting Lisbon especially to visit its palaces, you should start your excursion from Belem Palace. This is the most important palace in the city. Since 1910, this is the palace is the official residence of the President of Portugal. This majestic structure was built in 1559.  While taking a closer look at the structure, you would come across incredible blend of Baroque and Mannerist styles of architecture. The exterior of “L” shape building has pictures of important figures from mythology such as Hercules, Venus and Neptune. You can spend quality time in the Presidency Museum. Exhibitions in the museum depict the story of Republic Portugal and its Presidents. Louis XVth room is the major highlight of the palace’s interiors where numerous painting and shields of Orleans and house of Brangza can be found.

Fronteira Palace

Fronteira Palace is another worth visiting palace while enjoying holidays in Lisbon. This beautiful palace is strategically located in northwestern part of the city and is famous for its lush gardens and spectacular tile work. It was built in 1640 and known around the world for its splendid rooms that consist of frescoed panels, oil paintings and decorative tiles. While walking through the formal gardens, you would come across tiles that depict religious, hunting and battle scenes. Besides tiles, the gardens also feature busts of numerous Portuguese kings and several figures of mythological characters. The Palace is home to Tile Museum as well.

Ajuda Palace

If you want to take a closer look at the royal streak of Portugal, the itinerary of your holidays to Lisbon must have Ajuda Palace. Structure of this palace is still incomplete as the royal family exiled to Brazil. However, the interiors feature great variety of luxurious furniture, statues, tapestries and extraordinary decorative arts.  Other highlights can be found in the Ambassador’s Room, the Ballroom and the Music Room. Another room that enhances the importance of the palace is the Throne Room. The Dining Room features silk covered chairs and crystal chandeliers. One of the most discerning attributes of the palace is its impressive collection of clocks.
